CFP: H.D. Across Worlds: Ecologies, Spiritual Landscapes, Queer Histories, and Classical Reimaginations
H.D.’s literary reach extends across poetry, prose, memoir, film, and translation. This conference invites scholars to explore the many worlds H.D. inhabits and creates. We seek papers that illuminate any aspect of H.D.’s work, contexts, or reception, including, but not limited to the following:
Ecocritical Approaches
- H.D.’s “elemental” poetics, sea imagery, landscapes, and ecologies
- Environmental spirituality and planetary imaginaries in her visionary writings
Occultism, Mysticism, and Spiritual Practices
- Astrology, divination, dreamwork, or esoteric traditions as literary method
- Intersections between mysticism and modernist experimentation
Queer and Gender-Expansive Readings
- Queer, trans, and non-binary historiographies
- Gender fluidity, embodiment, and desire in the poems and prose
Biography, Life Writing, and Literary Networks
- New archival insights into H.D.’s personal and creative relationships
- Rethinking modernist biography: networks, collaboration, and influence
Classical Reception and Mythic Rewriting
- H.D.’s revisionary myth-making, translation, and mythopoetics
- Dialogues between ancient texts and modernist politics, gender, or ecology
